Crazy Random Happenstance

Billy: So good... Hey, this is weird. I ordered one frozen yogurt and they gave me two. You don't happen to like frozen yogurt, do you?
Penny: I love it!
Billy: You're kidding? What a crazy random happenstance!

Merlin's Beard!

Just a warning for some people (Ahem, Sam): This is a really gooey post about a book series that I love so much, I felt the need to write about it.

About 10yrs ago, Harry Potter made me fall in love with reading again. It sparked something inside of me that made me long to be apart of a magical world. The story is so well written and so clever and so much fun and I absolutely adore the characters. Today marks the grand opening of the theme park in Universal Studios. I actually teared up reading the articles about it and still have goosebumps seeing how excited people are for it. It's pretty amazing that a story about a boy wizard could stir up this much extravaganza and excitement.

Last weekend they finished filming the final movie (Deathly Hallows Part 1 comes out in November, 2010 and Part 2 comes out in 2011). That adds up to 9 and 3/4 years of filming. I learned that fun fact from Entertainment Weekly and thought it was very cool (if you don't know why that's cool, the platform to get onto the train for Hogwarts, is platform 9 3/4). It's bittersweet to think that they are all done. I can't wait to see the final films, but I don't want it to be over. I suppose that's how all you Star Wars people felt after Revenge of The Sith came out, eh?

I will not be watching any of the clips that are released between now and when the movie comes out (Dawn and I have made a pact not to partake in such things). Not seeing clips and stills beforehand will make it so much more enjoyable when I finally do get to see the film. Yes, I have already read the series (twice) and I already know what happens, but that's not the point. The point is that I want to see the film in it's entirety on the big screen. Not in small doses.

If you have never read Harry Potter or think it's just a story for little kids (it's not), you really should check it out. It takes you to another place and it's FUN. One day I will be able to visit the theme park and show Charley how much the series means to me. But until then, I can live vicariously through other people's experiences and wait for my turn with the Sorting Hat.

  1. No making fun of here. I enjoy the movies, but haven't read the books.

    reading is a good thing!

I've cracked open an HP book or two at the bookstore and agree, the style, especially for young adult/childrens literature is mature and well written. Not childish. (unlike a certain vampire series which reads like a 7th grade depressed girl diary)

I say good on anyone who loves and will miss the franchise.

I may or may not ever read it (might read it to my kids when they're old enough) but still admire the work and its accomplishments.

  2. I will agree that Twilight absolutely reads like a diary, but I still love the story.

You should wait to read it with Jonathan when he is old enough. That way you can experience it together. Awww, that would be really sweet.
