9.) For Starbucks to offer cinnamon dolce latte's all year long and not just at Christmas.

Hello.

I've had an itch to write a new post the last few weeks but haven't really had much to discuss, so I think I'm just going to wing it and see where it leads me.

Boy, I miss the internet. It's a really strange feeling to go from being on a computer 9 hours a day, to being limited to using one after work and on the weekends. I feel so out of the pop culture loop! I try to catch up on as much as I can every night but it's just not the same. With that being said, I wouldn't change the way things are now. I'm really happy with the new job. I feel like I'm learning a lot and I'll continue to learn a lot and that makes me happy.

I'm still reading a bunch, though admittedly, not as much as I was. But no worries, I'll get back to my usual book a week self real soon! I've read almost all of Jojo Moyes books. I love her. Her writing just makes me smile. I re-read Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell (again) and I have been considering re-reading Harry Potter (again) just because I miss it. I think I blogged before about how much I loved Will Grayson Will Grayson by John Green and David Levithan and I have read more Nora Roberts books. The greatest thing about Nora Roberts, other than the fact that her stories are my go to for a guaranteed happy ending, is that there are 47 million of them and I will never run out of her material. Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty was fantastic and I was a little disappointed by Paula Hawkins, The Girl On The Train. I think I am going to start Outlander by Diana Gabaldon next. It's been on my "to read" list for years and with all the hype the show is getting, I figure now is as good a time as any to start it.

Do you ever wonder why Target doesn't play music throughout the store while you shop? I do. I wonder it every time I go there. And I go there a lot.

I went back and forth on how I felt about this last season of Game of Thrones. It started out real, real, REAL slow then got coconuts and then disturbing and then sad. It was all over the board, which I suppose is your classic GOT season in a nutshell. I was bummed with how it ended and I know there is a lot of hype and speculation and SPOILERS out there on what will probably happen next season but I don't wanna know. I'm staying away from all those "so and so spotted in somewhere land shooting blah blah blah scenes". Keep it away from me, sister. I'll find out on my own.

I tried quinoa for the first time the other night. It was with some rice and herbs and whatnot and I pretty much felt like I was eating gravel. I don't think I want to eat that again.

Jeff and I saw Amy Schumer's Trainwreck last week. I loved it. Mostly because I really love Bill Hader and he makes me laugh and I think he has a great smile and he's cute, but it was really well written and smart. We first went to Emagine Canton to see it and there were no seats together left in the theater. SIDEBAR: What is the point of assigned seating with their new fancy seats if they aren't regulating how people are sitting in the theater? Doesn't that defeat the purpose? It's basically just a timesuck with no rhyme or reason other than making people take longer by choosing where they want to sit beforehand. END SIDEBAR. We left Emagine and went to Laurel Park where they have the fancy new seats as well but no assigned seating. We waited in the most confusing line ever ("Is this for Trainwreck?? Or THE Ant Man???") found some seats and sat. As the theater filled up (and boy, did it) these two girls stuffing their faces with popcorn, couldn't find two seats together and were making the usher run all over the room trying to make people move over for them. I was appalled. In the end, those jerks had to sit up front but not before making a group of ladies exchange their tickets for the later show so they could sit together. What holes! The audacity of people blows my mind. The point of this rambling rant? Go see Trainwreck and laugh your faces off.

Speaking of faces... One of my most favorite parts of the entire day is when I get to wash my face.

I have been working my way through The Flash the last couple weeks. I like it. It's decent. I like everyone on it but sometimes I feel like it's missing something. Also, I hate Iris. I really, really hate Iris. She has officially been added to my list of most hated characters.

Has anyone been watching Unreal on Lifetime with Shiri Appleby (A.K.A Liz Parker from Roswell) and Freddie Stroma (A.K.A Cormac McClaggen from Harry Potter)? It's a fictional, behind the scenes look at a Bachelor-esque type show and I love it. It's the perfect summer watch if you enjoy crazy, gross, funny, dirty things happening every week. It just got renewed for a second season and I'm sure it's on demand, or you know, the interwebs, so you should check it out.



I drove past the Borders in Dearborn last week. The sign is still up and the parking lot was all empty with the "for sale" sign out front. It made me really sad.

Jeff and I have been watching The Astronaut Wives Club this summer. It's a period drama that tells the story of the wives of America's first astronauts, The Mercury Seven. I like seeing all the old timey sets and clothes.It's a pretty neat show if you are looking for something different to watch and the one reporter fella on it looks JUST like JJ Abrams. He's super cute.

It's my one hundredth blog post!

I've thought and thought about what I should make this post about, seeing as how it's kind of a big deal for me but in the end I figured I was over thinking it. Just stick to what I know and what I do best and that's talk about a bunch of really random pop culture things and things that make me happy and maybe an exciting announcement concerning myself.

So...

Let's celebrate some things!

No, I'm NOT pregnant! I'll get to my exciting news in a bit (how's that for a cliffhanger, eh??). First, let's talk about some pop culture celebrations...

Like the fact that Undateable season two starts this evening!! I love this show so much. It premiered last summer and I thought I was the only person in the world who watched it until my sister and I randomly found out that we both adored it. It is executive produced by Bill Lawrence (Scrubs, Cougar Town) and it takes place in Detroit(ish). Lots of Detroit sports memorabilia being represented in every episode. It's so fun. It focuses on the friendship between Chris D'Elia's, Danny and Brent Morin's, Justin and laughter ensues every episode. I cannot say enough good things about it. It makes me so happy. Please check it out! Tonight at 9pm on NBC.

Like the fact that iZombie also premieres tonight (CW, 9pm). This show is brought to us by Rob Thomas, creative genius behind my beloved Veronica Mars. It stars Rose McIver as a brain eating zombie who assists the police with investigations. David Anders (Sark from Alias) is also in it and it's been getting really great reviews. I'm excited to watch it. You should too!

Let's celebrate the fact that this season of The Walking Dead has been my most favorite season in a very long time. Andrew Lincoln is outstanding. HE'S OUTSTANDING. No spoilers here, just know that if you gave up a couple seasons back, you should jump back in because it's crazy good. The season finale is March, 29th and it's going to be 90 minutes. 

Let's celebrate the fact that this has been one of the greatest seasons of The Vampire Diaries since the show started. Admittedly, I hated last season. I was so bummed. This is a show that rarely, if ever, let's me down so I was a bit stunned that last season was such a stinker... Until the finale. The finale was phenomenal and it set up this season perfectly. It's been fun and exciting and shocking and every great thing that it's supposed to be. I love it and my pop culture heart is thrilled that I love it again. 

Or the fact that two of my favorite actors, Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk are reuniting to make a crowdfunded tv show, Con Man, about their experiences at comic conventions. I didn't even care what the project was going to be. I was in as soon as I saw the two of them producing something together. Their introduction video is so much fun, I would have been happy with just that alone. If you were/are a fan of Firefly, Nathan Fillion or funny things, you should truly take a look at what they are trying to get accomplished. Their goal dollar amount was $425,000. They had 30 days to reach it, They reached it within a matter of hours. As of right this second, they are at $2,019,456.00. Blows my mind! I cannot wait to see the end result.

Now for some personal celebrations...

Two of my very great friends got engaged over the weekend. Join me in wishing my soulmate, Dawn and her fiance, Bill a huge, huge CONGRATULATIONS!! They are quite honestly a match made in heaven and I cannot wait to see them become Mr. and Mrs. Billiam Barker. 

Let's celebrate the fact that my brother Dennis's band Havilland (with Paul, Sam and Chad) will be reuniting this weekend for the first time since 2005, along with their friends, Mother Hubbard. It's going to be a really great time and if you enjoy good music and fun people, you should come on out.

Let's celebrate the fact that I drove downtown by myself today for the first time ever and drove on the freeway for the first time in years and years and years.

Finally, let's celebrate a huge change coming up in my little world: After ten years and some months of slinging numbers and paying invoices and answering inquiries, I have decided to leave Doner and go back to my roots in the Optical World. This opportunity kind of sprang up out of nowhere and snowballed quickly into this super awesome thing. I'm going to be working with eyeballs again. I'll be with the Henry Ford Opthalmology department and working as a Scribe. I am really excited. And I am positively terrified. There is an overwhelming sense of goodness and all sorts of signs pointing in the direction of making this career change. My family and my friends have been insanely uplifting and inspiring to me these last few weeks. It makes me realize how incredibly lucky I am to have the people in my life that I do. Especially Jeff and Charley. Jeff has calmed me down time after time these past few weeks/days. Putting my mind at ease every single time I come up with a crazy fear or go through a span of doubt. He's my rock and my Fred and I love him with all of my heart.

So please, please wish me lots of luck. I would appreciate any and all forms of encouragement these next few days as my craziness is sure to break through time and time again and I start to freak out about making such a giant change in my life. I appreciate any and all forms of well wishes!!

Some Stuff.

I feel a bit of rambling, nothingness coming on. Join me, won't you?

Is there a better combination out there than coffee and doughnuts? Or coffee and cake? Or coffee and pie? Or coffee and... you get the point. 

It's Friday the 13th. On the surface I always try not to let that date bother me but deep down inside, I am always worried all the bad things will happen on this day. Superstitious, much?

Sometimes I wish I could text Charley throughout the day to see how he's doing or just to say hi because I miss him.

Lately I've been thinking that I would like to take a creative writing class for fun but without paying a billion dollars to do it. Let's make up our own group and meet at a Panera or something one night a week and write fun stuff. We could come up with topics each meeting and drink coffee and eat baked goods. Doesn't that sound like a good time?

My DVR is at 81%. You have no idea how much that stresses me out.

I just finished another JoJo Moyes book, The Ship Of Brides. Goodness, I love her. She is such a fantastic writer. If you've never read anything by her, please check her out. Anything she's written is well worth the read. She's wonderful.

The e-book version of one of my favorite books, Falling Together by Marisa de los Santos, is on sale right now for $1.99 through February 23rd. If you have one of them fancy e-readers and are looking for a new read, you should download it. I loved it a lot.

Man, I hate winter.

We have a new neighbor(s) on one side of us. A couple of young dudes. They have super, really loud parties almost every weekend. So loud that it almost makes me dread Saturdays and I love Saturdays. A couple weeks ago they were screaming Blink 182's "All The Small Things" at 2am. I woke up at 8am the next morning and started vacuuming and blaring music as loud as I could. I don't think they cared. Summer time should be fun. Holes.

I've been watching the new show Hindsight on VH1. It's about a girl who ends up transported back to 1995. It's fun and I love the music. It makes me happy.

The Fifty Shades of Grey movie comes out today. How many of you are going to see it this weekend?? You should tell me your thoughts on it. If you are bored and just can't get enough of my musings, here is a link to my review of the books after I read them in 2012--------> Laters, baby

I am terrible at keeping my house clean.

After I got my waffle iron for Christmas, I made waffles almost every day for a week.

I spent an entire Saturday watching season one of Parks & Rec. I got a few eps into season two and haven't had time to go back and watch more. My DVR is at 81%, remember?

Sometimes I forget to make Charley take a shower. How do you moms with multiple kids keep track of everything they are doing? I have one and I am exhausted. And I hate cutting his nails. He throws a fit and wants me file them with a nail file. Sometimes I do it because I don't feel like fighting with him about it.

I read It's Kind of a Funny Story  by Ned Vizzini a few weeks ago. It's a good book and I finished it around 1am (one of the nights the new neighbors kept me up). I was really happy with the ending and then I decided to read up on the author. I found out he committed suicide in 2013. I was so bummed. The book is about depression and suicide and some of the events are based on his life. It took me forever to go to sleep after that.

Charley just learned how to tie his shoes. Almost 8 is probably a little late for that, eh? He's never really owned a pair of tie shoes before so it never came up but he did awesome and I was super proud of him.

Hot Topic had these Gryffindor sweat pants over Christmas that I really wanted. When I went there a few weeks ago they had one pair left. It was a dude's size large. I bought them anyway. They are huge but I don't care. I love them.

My stacks of books are growing out of control again.

I want to live in the flat from the Paddington movie. It's so neat.

When I get coffee at work, I will walk to one of the other kitchens if someone is already in there. I get all awkward and weird if I am forced to make small talk. What is wrong with me?

Tomorrow is Valentine's Day. What's your favorite romantic movie?

I am really looking forward to that SNL reunion on Sunday.

2014

It's 2015!

And since it's 2015, that means I get to reflect on the year that was 2014, which seems to have flown by at ludicrous speed. Seriously. 2014 went to plaid, guys.

Let's get to recapping my faves/not so faves, eh??

Television:
As I'm sure you've all noticed, I haven't been blogging as much. Not really sure why, just haven't felt like it as of late. That's sad, isn't it? I suppose a big reason for that is because it takes me so long to get caught up with the shows I love lately. I'm finding it more and more difficult to watch things live... unless it's Game of Thrones or The Walking Dead because inevitably someone will always spoil me on those shows if I don't watch them ASAP.

Speaking of those two shows, they were probably my favorite of 2014. The Walking Dead probably had it's most consistent season since season 1 and it ended with a bang. I was really, really happy with it. Game of Thrones, as usual, was suspenseful and delightful and fantastic. Peter Dinklage is so much fun and you all know my love for Daenerys.

The True Blood finale was mediocre at best. I didn't have high expectations for it, though and that was probably a good thing. Much like the end of the book series, it was just meh. I had fun watching it for a little while and I'll miss the characters but I am glad that it's over.

One other show that I ended up loving a lot is The Goldbergs. My dad told me and told me to check it out and when I finally did it made me really happy. It makes me feel transported back in time to my childhood. Every actor on that show is fantastic and the best thing about it is that Charley loves it too so we get to enjoy it together. It's almost like giving him a little piece of me growing up when we watch it. He asks questions about all the different music and loves when they talk about Star Wars but really, I think he just finds it hysterical that the dad never wears pants when he's at home.

White Collar ended it's run in December. Boy, I loved that show and seeing Matt Bomer on my TV screen every week. The finale was wonderfully done. It had me intrigued one second to crying my eyes out the next and in the end, I couldn't have been happier. I'm really going to miss it but they sure did a great job with wrapping it up.

Honorable Mentions: Reign, The White Queen, Once Upon a Time (at times).

2014 was the year I finally made the monumental decision to stop watching Grey's Anatomy. I figure you can only bitch about a show for so long before you decide to give up on it all together. I couldn't get past all the recycled storylines and watching a show out of obligation is no fun. Honestly, most of my favorite characters were either gone or killed off and the ones that were left weren't even all that likable anymore. So, I chose to stop complaining about it and to just give up on it. I still read the recaps every now and then just to see if I'm missing out on anything important (I'm not). I also gave up on The Following, which was super disappointing because I picked it as one of my most favorites last year. I lasted about 4 episodes into the 2nd season and I suppose I should have stuck it out but I was over all the crazy killing for no reason. It was like the plot went out the window as soon as season 1 ended and that bummed me out.

Music:

Ed Sheeran came out with his second album, X in June and goodness, do I love it. Thinking Out Loud is probably one of the best songs I have ever heard. Ever. I told Jeff that if we were to ever renew our vows, this would be our song. I adore it. It's also phenomenal live and he made the best, most adorable video ever for it.



Charley and I also thought the American Authors album, Oh, What a Life was super great. There were a few months there where C listened to that CD every single night before bed. It's fun, it's poppy and it makes me really happy. My favorite song on that album is Believer. Carrie and I say it's our theme song. It's so good.



Movies:

Surprisingly, I saw a whole lot of movies in 2014. I'm having a hard time picking a favorite so I will just give you a rundown of the ones I saw that I loved.

The Lego Movie- So inventive. So creative and just plain brilliant. What a wonderfully fun film.
The Fault In Our Stars- Extremely true to the book. A beautiful love story displayed just as spectacularly on film as it was on paper. John Green should be so proud of both.
Gone Girl- Again, so true to the book. I was probably looking more forward to this film than any other that came out all of last year and it did not disappoint, Ben Affleck was spot on, SPOT ON as Nick Dunne and Neil Patrick Harris played creepy so well. They were able to create the atmosphere and the feel of the book throughout the entire film and it was so well done.
The Veronica Mars Movie- Fabulous. The epitome of a love letter to the fans. Every single thing about this movie was phenomenal. I cannot say enough good things about it.
Wish I Was Here- Another Kickstarter that I was apart of and was so rewarded by when I saw the end result. Zach Braff should be so proud. He's an outstanding director, writer, actor. I just love him. This film is heartwarming and heartbreaking and full of, uhm... heart. Check it out.
Mockingjay Part One- To be honest, I wasn't really looking forward to seeing this book in movie form. SPOILER ALERT, it's sad and dark and just sad. But I am happy to report that it was wonderful. Still sad, still dark but they did a great job with it. I can't wait to see part 2.
Guardians Of The Galaxy- So. Much. Fun. This movie is just delightful. Every single aspect of it is great. James Gunn did an outstanding job and Chris Pratt is a joy all around.

Honorable mention goes to- Divergent (uhh, Theo James. That's all that needs to be said), Captain America: The Winter Soldier (I liked it better than the first one!), Austenland (Fun, just like the book and Keri Russell is the best).

I wasn't all that crazy about the new Muppets movie, Muppets Most Wanted which really bummed me out. Charley loved it but I felt like it was trying too hard or something. Too much going on? Not enough? I don't know. It was just meh.

BOOKS!:

The following are all books that I gave 5 stars to on my Goodreads account. I don't give 5 stars out all that easily so you know I LOVED these.

One Plus One by JoJo Moyes- This book made me laugh and made me happy and I love it a lot. It makes you appreciate what you have and who you love and makes you feel all sappy.
The Girl You Left Behind by JoJo Moyes- I've been on a bit of a JoJo Moyes kick, can you tell?? This book transported me into 1916 France and then back to the present. It's about figuring out what is really important in your life and truly fighting for what you believe in.
Landline and Attachments both by Rainbow Rowell. Listen, all you need to know is that Rainbow Rowell is one of the best writers I have ever had the pleasure of reading. I will gladly read anything and everything she writes. I. Love. Her.
The Fault In Our Stars by John Green- I was late to the party on this one. I tried really hard to ignore it but in the end, the buzz became too big for me to leave it alone. This book is wonderful and heartfelt and so sad but so freaking fantastic.

Worst book- The Fate Of Mercy Alban by Wendy Webb. Ugh. I did not like this book. It sounded so interesting when I read the summary but the actual story was so blah my eyes almost got stuck in my head from rolling them.

Favorite 2014 Happenings:

-Jeffrey left FYE and started working at my most beloved Henry Ford Optim Eyes. It's hard for me to express just how proud I am of him. He has learned so much and come so far in the last six months. I can't wait to see where this adventure takes him. And the best is that we were actually able to enjoy a Christmas season TOGETHER for the first time in the entire 16 years we have been together. Suck it, FYE.
-I saw Ben Folds with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra with Jeff, Dennis and Noah and it was superb. I have seen Ben Folds more times than I can count and I think this was my most favorite. He is such a great showman and he's so damn talented. Man, I love him.
-Natalie and Adam got engaged (05/05/15 ya'll!) And they brought Marty into our family!
-My mom celebrated 5 years cancer free!
-My beautiful, adorable, squishable niece, Layla Jayde was born.
-Charley learned to ride a two wheeler (now if we could only get Trevor to come out, we will be GOOD TO GO!)
-Hanging out at Camp Proctor all summer.
-Playing badminton with my Proctor girls. Laughter, trash talk and ALL the fun. I can't wait for this summer.
-Seeing Ed Sheeran at the palace with Natalie. Good lord, that boy is so talented and handsome and I was mesmerized listening to him. I just love him so much!

2015 Hopefuls/Looking Forward To's:

-To blog more?
-To be happier at my job. The end of 2014 was really, really, really, really stressful. I'm trying not to start the year by stressing about going back to work in 2015 but it's difficult. I am grateful that I have a job that I am good at. I just need to learn how to handle the chaos a little better, I suppose.

-For Charley to continue being the happy/funny/fantastic kid that he is.
